LASER SURGERY

We are the only clinic in our area that has been performing laser surgery for over 6 years.  We use laser on all of our non-elective surgeries, and offer it on all elective surgeries, such as spays and neuters.

Your pet's health is as important to us as it is to you.  We are pleased to offer laser surgery as a safe and more comfortable treatment.

In most procedures, the laser can replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery.

WHAT IS A LASER?

A laser is a device that generates an intense beam of light at a specific wavelength.

HOW DOES A LASER WORK?

Our patient's are treated with a carbon dioxide(CO2) laser, the most widely used type of medical laser in the world.  CO2 lasers produce an invisible beam that vaporizes the water normally found in the skin and other soft tissue.  Because the laser beam can be precisely controlled, it removes or "cuts" only a thin layer of tissue at one time, leaving the surrounding areas unaffected.  This level of control allows us to be extremely precise in every laser surgery procedure.

WHAT TYPES OF PROCEDURS CAN A LASER PERFORM?

A laser is ideal for a wide variety of surgical procedures for dogs, cats, birds, and other animals.  Laser surgery can correct  many common conditions such as cysts, tumors, warts and infections that may occur around the eyes, ears, in the mouth, and anywhere on the skin.  Spcialized internal procedures are also possible.

WHY LASER SURGERY?

1.  The Laser produces less swelling because laser energy does not crush, tear, or bruise because there is no physical contact with the tissue.

2.  The Laser seals nerve endings as it "cuts", so your pet may require less anesthesia during the operation, reducing the risk of complications.  Pain afer surgery is also reduced.

3.  The LASER allows precision in removal of tissues.

4.  The LASER may allow fewer stitches or eliminate sutures completely.

5.  The LASER produces little or no blood loss for your pet, because the LASER seals the small blood vessels.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MY PET?

1.  Reduced risk of infection - The laser sterilizes as it removes diseased tissue, killing bacteria that cause infection.

2.  Precision - The laser can remove unhealthy tissue without affecting or removing surrounding healthy tissue.

3.  Quick return to normal activities - Healing is rapid and there is less post-operative discomfort.

Laser procedures reduce the trauma to your pet, improve healing, and may shorten time spent in the veterinary hospital.

Not only is Laser more comfortable for your pet, but new studies show that the Laser is shown to:

-minimize immunity suppression (which can lead to post surgical infection)
-shortens wound healing time
-faster return of appetite
-results in less licking/chewing or self-destruction of the surgical site
-prevents costly surgical site repair for the owner to pay

THE GUILT FREE LASER DECLAW!

CONCERNED ABOUT DECLAWING?  We know how you feel.  While that furry little friend can cause great damage to your furniture, draperies, your clothes and even your skin, you feel guilty about having him declawed.  We know this because we consistently hear comments from pt owners just like you.

DID YOU KNOW.....that declawing can now be performed with a laser?  Yes!  That same tool that removes facial wrinkles and varicose veins from people can be used to declaw a cat.  Laser surgery makes declawing a better, safer, less painful procedure.

ON THE PROWL THE VERY NEXT DAY!  Since there are no bandages, your furry friend can be up to normal speed the next day.

ALL CATS, YOUNG OR OLD, BIG OR SMALL CAN HAVE LASER DECLAW.  wE THINK IT IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE BEST TCHNIQUE DEVELOPED FOR DECLAWING.

"DAY SURGERY" Because laser surgery seals blood vessels as it cuts, there is usually no need for bandaging after surgery.  Therefore, your kitty can usually go home later that same day.  In the rare occasion, some older/larger cats may require bandaging and hspitalization over night at the discretion of the doctor- but at no additional charge.

THE COST FOR DECLAWING? Yes, it does cost a little more, but we think the benefit for your pet is worth it.  Properly done, a declaw will provide the cat a lifetime of comfort and allow him to be an inside pet without causing all the damage.

"ONCE IN A LIFETIME" Considering a properly performed declaw surgery is a "once in a lifetime" procedure, don't you agree that this new member of your family deserves the best!

All declaw surgical removals are done with Laser at the Animal Medical Center
