DR. YOCHERER PERFORMING VIDEO OTOSCOPY

Dr. Yocherer is performing video otoscopy, which is an otoscope that contains a camera enabling the client to view her dog's ear canal on the TV screen.  This specialized piece of equipment allows the doctor and client to visualize the pets ear canal revealing tumors, polyps, wax, infection or foreign bodies.

If an eye disease is suspected, we can measure your pet's internal eye pressure with our Tonopen to rule out glaucoma;  perform a Schirmer Tear Test to determine if your pet's tear production is adequate to rule out dry eye disease;  and a fluorescein stain test to detect any corneal ulcers.photo  A Panophthalmoscope can also be used to examine the internal structures of the eye for any diseases of the retina or optic nerve.  We are capable of treating most eye diseases, but if we feel your pet may have a more complicated eye disease beyond our capabilities, we will be happy to refer you to a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist at the Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center in Waukesha.

Your pets heart will be ausculted, or listened to with a stethoscope.  If a heart murmur, arrhythmia, or disease is detected, your pet can receive further workup, such as digital chest x-rays, ECG, and possibly an echocardiogram, or ultrasound of the heart, in our own clinic.

Your pet's teeth will be examined and preventive dental health discussed.  But if a problem is found, we will recommend a dentistry cleaning and dental x-rays.  If your pet requires more extensive dental work, we can refer you to a veterinary dental specialist at your request.photo

Your pet's skin will be thoroughly examined for any inflammation, rashes, infections, lumps, and bumps.  We can perform skin scrapings for parasites and mites, fungal cultures for ringworm, and fine needle aspirates of skin tumors to obtain cells for microscopic exam to determine if surgical removal and biopsy is necessary.  These tests can be very important because some of these skin diseases are zoonotic, or highly contagious to you and your family.photos

TWICE PER YEAR CHECKUPS ARE IMPRTANT

Many emergencies can be prevented through early detection and treatment.  Because pet's age 7  times faster than we do, twice per year examinations are an important part of your pet's basic health care.  We don't want you to forget, so we send every client reminders.
